Jaguar Parents and Families,
At Hobbs, we believe that no student should ever worry about going hungry. A full stomach means a ready mind, and making sure our Jaguars are fed is one of the most important ways we can support their success.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Feeding the Gulf Coast to provide weekend food backpacks for our students. This program is open to all students, no questions asked and no income requirements—because every child deserves the security of knowing there’s food at home.
🍎 Weekend Food Backpacks
• First distribution: Friday, September 26
• Each backpack includes food to help stretch meals at home and snacks for two days.
• Sign up here: Weekend Food Backpack Form
🥫 Hobbs Food Pantry
In addition, our on-campus food pantry provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food, snacks, drinks, toiletries, and personal hygiene items.
• Available weekdays (focused on dinner items).
• Available weekends (via backpacks).
• Support can be provided once, occasionally, or all year long.
✨ Most important: Do NOT go hungry!
If your student—or your family—needs support with meals, please let us know. We are here to help in any way we can.

Good afternoon Jaguar parents, families, and staff!
This is Brandon Koger, principal at Hobbs Middle, with an important update about our School Improvement Plan (SIP) and accountability reports.
The Hobbs Middle SIP is now available for review. Under Florida law, each school must submit a SIP for approval by the School Board. These plans outline goals and strategies to increase student achievement.
Our SIP was developed in collaboration with teachers, staff, parents, guardians, community members, and students. It has already been reviewed by our School Advisory Council and is currently being peer-reviewed by the district’s Office of Continuous Improvement. Now, we invite your feedback.
📄 Review the SIP here: https://tinyurl.com/r94yvfhh.
In addition, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires schools to share annual reports on student achievement, accountability, and subgroup data. These reports are also available for you to review at the EduData website: https://edudata.fldoe.org/index.html.
If you have any questions or feedback about the SIP or accountability reports, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at kogerb@santarosa.k12.fl.us.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping Hobbs Middle grow and succeed!

In Mrs. Shackle’s class, students practiced WICOR strategies with a focus on Critical Reading and Collaboration. Working in pairs, they took turns reading the assigned text aloud to build active listening and comprehension. As they read, students highlighted essential information and circled key vocabulary to deepen understanding.
Afterward, partners compared and discussed their annotations, sharing insights and opinions that fostered meaningful engagement with rigorous content.
WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) strategies make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun—and at Hobbs, this is the type of hands-on, rigorous learning your students will experience! 🙌📚🔑

In a recent lesson from Mr. Rudd, the focus was on collaboration! Each student received an index card with either an exponential property or its simplified form. Their challenge? Roam the room, communicate, and find their matching partner.
This activity got students moving, talking, and thinking—reinforcing key math concepts while building teamwork skills.

In a recent lesson from Ms. Kratz, students practiced Prime Factorization and Greatest Common Factor through an Escape Room Challenge. They used inquiry to ask questions, test strategies, and problem-solve, while collaborating with teammates to unlock each level and “escape.”

Please review the attached testing calendar carefully. Beginning today and continuing over the next four weeks, students will participate in various progress tests at different times.
Use the calendar to determine when your student is scheduled to test, and ensure they are present and prepared on their assigned test date. Students perform best when they are well-rested, have eaten a good breakfast, and bring the necessary supplies (such as No. 2 pencils).
Thank you for supporting your student’s success during this important testing period.

Florida Statute 1003.42 requires school districts to develop a comprehensive, age-appropriate, and developmentally appropriate K-12 instruction for various topics including suicide prevention, substance use and abuse prevention, dating violence, abstinence, resiliency, and child trafficking prevention education.
In accordance with Florida State Board of Education Rule 6A-1.094124, Required Instruction Planning and Reporting requires school districts to annually provide a minimum of five (5) hours of data-driven instruction to students in grades 6-12 related to civic and character education and life skills education through resiliency using the health education standards, including the social, emotional, and physical effects of social media.
We will begin these lessons next week, starting Tuesday, September 2nd. Please see the attached letter for information about this state mandated curriculum.

This is Brandon Koger, principal of Hobbs Middle School, with an important message for parents and families. We are conducting a lockdown drill at school today as part of our regular emergency drill process as required by state law. We know that drills can cause possible concerns for our students, but we believe it’s important for them to know exactly what to do in an emergency and these practice drills enhance their safety. Again, all students are safe, and this is simply a required lockdown drill. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hello, Jaguar Families.
This is Brandon Koger, Principal at Hobbs, with an important announcement about Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day, taking place this Thursday, August 21.
On this day, we will take time to talk with our students about the dangers of fentanyl and the steps they can take to protect themselves from this deadly drug. Students will view a short informational video on ITV, and our administration team will continue the conversation with them during lunch.
Our message is simple: Protect yourself. Just say no.
Thank you for your support as we work together to keep our students safe and informed.

Jaguar students and families, our brand-new spirit shirts are here and on sale! 🐆 Show your Jaguar pride in style. Right now, they’re long sleeve only—but if we get enough orders, we’ll open a second round with short sleeves, too!
